Power Huddle Tips for Leaders
- Be On Time, set a good example and be a good role model.
- Bring your WATCH!
- Bring a LUNCH & WATER BOTTLE, too!
- Respect your elders and your campers. (Your campers are watching you. What they see is likely important than what you say).
- Ask open-ended questions & don’t be afraid of silence. Encourage everyone to participate.
- Don’t combine 2 questions in one, make your questions simple.
- Facilitate discussion — don’t be the center of attention — you’re there to help them learn more about Christ.
- Don’t emphasize your own viewpoint and expect everyone to be impressed by stuff that impresses you. Also — FCA is about Jesus, avoid denominational/theological discussion and point everything back to Christ.
- Read/Study the material — if you feel comfortable with what you are teaching, your lessons will go smoother.
- Summarize main ideas and review and then repeat. Give them life applications and try to meet campers where they are — stretch them all even if you have to use “Baby Steps” with some.
- You’re in charge, be clear on what you want them to do and ask them if they understand your directions.
- Remember — No Corporal Punishment, keep control of your huddle, but don’t get out of hand — The Staff is here to help you have fun, use us!
- Keep good communication with FCA Staff and your Huddle Leader Coordinator — tell us information even if you don’t think we need to know. (Injuries, comments made by campers, etc.)
- Use good judgment and common sense — parents are trusting us with their children.
- PRAY, PRAY, PRAY. Pray for patience, God’s presence, good weather, protection, for God to use YOU, and for a good time!
- God has YOU here in His Perfect Timing — Be teachable and useable. He has GREAT plans for you and your Huddle!!!
- Each person is a special gift of God, created uniquely by Him.
- SHOW THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST IN EVERYTHING YOU SAY AND DO—Campers need to experience His love.
Thank you for serving — you are a blessing!
