What is the vision for the FCA Power Camp?
FCA Power Camp has been a life-changing experience for thousands of youth for nearly 50 years. Why? We believe it is evident that the unique combination of athletics and the gospel messages makes for a winning event. And yet even though each summer our camps reach thousands of youth nationwide (266 across 36 states nationwide with over 46,000 attending), we are actually reaching only a small percentage due to travel, time and financial concerns. Thus, the FCA dream of providing a low-cost FCA Sports camp experience in our area as an annual FCA Service Project and outreach event.
What do the participants receive?
Each Power Camp participant will receive top quality sports instruction, inspirational athlete testimonies, an FCA t-shirt, a FCA sports New Testament bible, lunch, drinks and prizes.
What should my child bring?
A hat (outdoor sports only) and a water bottle. Sports shoes and attire is recommended. Baseball and softball participants should bring a (baseball) glove. Tennis participants should bring a tennis racket. Golf participants should bring golf clubs. Campers are asked not to bring a ball or other items that could be easily lost.
What is the objective of the FCA Power Camp?
Our objective is to positively impact lives for Christ using the medium of sports and to provide a free camp that has the same excellence of an overnight FCA Camp. Utilizing high school and college athletes, the best Christian coaches in our area, along with local youth pastors who can lead our chapel times, this camp will be a unique experience for young people in our area. Simply put, there is no other camp of this kind in Eastern Iowa!
What is the history of the FCA Power Camp?
Around the country, some FCA Power Camps attract up to 1000 kids per day. Here in Eastern Iowa, we started small in 2006, offering basketball and soccer only, with 65 students attending a one-day event at Cedar Valley Christian School. In 2007, we had 300 over two days. In 2008, our FCA Power Camp was cancelled because of the flooding in the Cedar Rapids area. Our goal is to build the Power Camp in the coming years, expanding the number of different sports offered, and perhaps increasing the camp to three, four or five-day experience. Our goal in 2010 is to cater to a minimum of 400 kids each day (600 total).
What are some of the goals of the FCA Power Camp?
Our goals for this Power Camp are to: Expose kids to a life of faith in God; Combine fun and sports with God; Introduce kids to the FCA environment; Promote FCA in our community; Reach those ages that we do not normally reach (3rd-8th graders) as well as youth from a variety of cultures and communities; Involve high school and college athletes in an annual FCA service project; Partner with volunteer and other youth serving agencies in an FCA community service project; Expose youth to diversity; and, Obey God who has called us to do this event. It is our over-arching goal for the kids to say at the end of this camp, "This is the best camp I've ever been to and I can't wait to come back next year."
